The BCM School of Bible and Mission was established to provide study opportunities to Salvationists and members of the public who are not training to be Salvation Army officers to join the cadets in class to achieve the NZQA approved diplomas. SBM students are invited to join in with the life of the college as much as they are willing and able.

The School of Bible and Mission operates alongside the School for Officer Training to make theological education available to the wider church.

The New Zealand Diploma of Christian Studies (Theology) Level 5 (DipCS). This aims to meet the learning needs of those who may go on to take leadership and ministry roles in The Salvation Army and other Christian denominations. It encourages students to develop a deeper understanding of the Biblical story and reflect on Christian life and faith. The DipCS Theology Level 5 programme requires students to have English competency that will allow them to study effectively at Level 5 of the NZ Qualifications Framework.

The DipCS Theology Level 5 is currently not offered by distance learning.

Application Process

The application process for students (non-cadet) ensures that their presence will add to the learning experience and to the richness of classroom discussion.

Prospective students undergo a pre-acceptance interview by the Education Officer (Academic Dean) and the Academic Registrar. This allows us to determine the ability to study at tertiary level. You will also need to provide the names and contact numbers of two referees. Once your application has been considered, you will be notified of the outcome.

The DipCS Theology Level 5 programme requires students to have English competency that will allow them to study effectively at Level 5 of the NZ Qualifications Framework. All applicants whose first language is not English are required to take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) test during their application process. An overall score of 5.5 or higher in IELTS (Academic) with a minimum of 5.0 in ALL BANDS is required for this diploma. All applicants should be 18 years of age or older in order to enter the study programme.
